During a town hall meeting attended by FCT Minister Nyemso Wike on Friday, the Aguma of Gwagwalada area council, Alhaji Muhammad Magaji, expressed his concerns over the inadequate resources at the Gwagwalada divisional police headquarters.

Alhaji Magaji revealed that despite the presence of federal government institutions and an influx of people into the council, the divisional police headquarters operates with only one patrol vehicle. He addressed the FCT minister, urging the administration to provide more patrol vehicles to enhance security patrols in the area.

“The honourable minister, sir, I want to say something, and I think the FCT commissioner of police is here. The Gwagwalada divisional police has one patrol vehicle, which is painful,” he informed the minister.

Additionally, Alhaji Magaji appealed to Minister Wike to establish two additional police stations in the area and requested the construction of a double lane from SDP junction to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for emergencies.

In his welcome address, the chairman of Gwagwalada area council, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri, highlighted the collaborative efforts between security agencies and local vigilantes in curbing kidnapping and banditry in the council. He sought assistance from the minister to complete FCDA abandoned projects, including the St. Mary Hospital – Market Road, and the establishment of an army base at Gwargwada boundary with Niger state to combat bandit activities.

Minister Wike assured that his administration is committed to addressing and curbing crime across the FCT. He emphasized the need to eliminate informants aiding bandits and kidnappers, directing the council chairman to collaborate with FCT Police Commissioner, CP Haruna Garba, to establish two additional police stations.

The minister further pledged new patrol vehicles to all divisional police headquarters across the six area councils in the coming week. He instructed the council chairman to submit a list of FCDA abandoned projects for prompt action. The minister reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in the region
