TCN To Enhance Electricity Transmission In Benin And Environs

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Benin region says modalities have been put in place to enhance electricity Transmission in its region and environs .

General Manager, Transmission Company of Nigeria, Benin Region, Engineer, Isaac Okpe stated this while briefing some selected Journalists shortly after an inspection tour of the Company power plants in Ihovbor and Sapele road axis of Benin City

Engineer Okpe , said as part of measures to intensify electricity transmission in the four States of Edo, Delta , and parts of Ondo and Ekiti, the Transmission Company of Nigeria has embarked on series of projects aimed at grid expansion of the Benin Sub Region .

He listed the Project expansion/ Upgrading project of 2x150MVA to 2×300 MVA 330/132kV power transformer.

Upgrade of 1x40MVAto 1x100MVA 132/33kV Power transformer at Benin Sub-Region and Restoration of T2 40 MVA transformer at Okada 132/33kV line following the installation of 300KVA grounding transformer.

At Omotosho Sub Region Project expansion at Ondo Transmission Station, He stated that upgrading of 2x 30MVA to 2x 60MVA.
Commissioning of new 2x40MVA power transformer at 132/33KV line at Erinje Sub-Station currently undergoing testing.

He added that in Delta Sub Region
Ongoing upgrade/expansion of 1x185MVA power transformer at Ughelli 132/33kV line with Upgrade of 1x60MVA to 100MVA power transformer with the
Commissioned 150MVA 330/132kV Inter bus transformer at Ughelli last year.

While in Ihovbor Work center, Mr Okpe explained that additional 150MVA 330/132/33kV Upgrade of 1x60MVA to 100MVA Power transformer among others.

Mr Okpe stressed that TCN Benin region has faced its fair share of obstacles in the journey towards the effective transmission of bulk electricity.

He listed the company Challenges to Vandalization of Ihovbor/Omotosho Tower T444+, Vandalization of Benin/Ihovbor Towers T to T and and enroachment of right of way by constructing and carrying out business under transmission towers and power lines. Construction of Road under towers and others.

He appealed to the general public to leave TCN right of way and desist from vandalizing TCN Properties, as the towers release electromagnetic waves which are harmful to humans and vandalizing towers can cause national black out, fire outbreak and electrocution.
