Workers in Ebonyi State have taken to the streets of Abakaliki in a solidarity march for Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
The march, organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), is in gratitude for the Governor’s exemplary commitment to worker welfare.
“This solidarity match is a testament to the Governor’s unwavering dedication to the well-being of our workforce,” declared Comrade Prof. Egwu Ogugua, Chairman of the NLC Ebonyi State Council, in a message to workers. “The exceptional government-labor relations that have flourished under his leadership speak volumes.”
The message added: “The solidarity match is a gesture of gratitude for the Governor. Rt.Hon.Builder. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s unwavering dedication to the well-being of the workforce and the exceptional government/labour relations that have existed since he assumed office, particularly highlighted by the generous Christmas largess of one hundred thousand nairas to each worker. Additionally, the prompt payment of salaries and the commendable effort in clearing the backlog of retirees’ gratuities and the ten thousand naira(#10,000.00) salary bonus to workers in Ebonyi state paid since July 2023 have significantly contributed to the overall welfare of our labor force.
“Your presence at this event would not only be an expression of solidarity but also a testament to the collective appreciation for the positive impact Rt.Hon.Builder. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru made in the lives of workers in our state.
“We look forward to your participation in this meaningful occasion.
“Solidarity Forever.”
Thousands of workers have marched from the Ecumenical Centre through Afikpo Road and Ogoja Road, culminating at the Centenary City, where they are to be received by the Governor.
