Works Minister David Umahi has stated that inhabitants of the Southeast have no reason to join other areas to protest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over rising costs of living in the country.

Umahi stated that the President had ended the region’s ongoing farmer/herder tensions.

He stated that such fights exacerbated the area’s insecurity and hampered food production, resulting in widespread famine.

The minister stated this while speaking to reporters in his hometown of Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.

Umahi explained that the high cost of living in the country was the cumulative effect of past administrations’ actions and inactions, which President Tinubu has started solving through policies and programmes.

The minister said the Tinubu administration favoured the Southeast greatly through appointments to key positions, including himself, the first Minister of Works from the Southeast.

He said the administration has been doing many projects in the region, adding that with all these, the Southeast has no moral justification to join those protesting against the President over the high cost of living in the land.

Umahi urged residents of the region not to be lured by any group or other regions to join any protest against the President.

The former Ebonyi State governor described last week’s protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) as unhealthy and unreasonable.

He urged fellow Nigerians to be patriotic and shun any act that could.

“The present hunger that everybody is talking about didn’t start today. It’s a built-up to a number of factors. Before the past administration and present administration, we had been having a build-up of insecurity. We had farmers/herders clashes over a number of years…

“At a time, I was the Chairman of NEC committee on resolving farmers/herders clashes. So, I went through a number of states, especially the northern states, settling the farmers/herders clashes, and it yielded a number of fruits.

“That problem dealt a huge blow to food production. The issue of kidnapping and the issue of insecurity prevented farmers from going to their farms because here we are talking about hunger.

“And so, you expect the administration of President Tinubu to fix all those things within nine months? It’s not possible. It’s a cumulative effect of the past, like I have mentioned. We should be asking ourselves: how do we solve these problems? That’s what the President has started doing. When something has got to the climax, you don’t expect to resolve it overnight.

“If you check very well, especially in the Southeast, you will know that we no longer have incessant farmers/herders clashes. So, why should we join the protest when the President has solved our major problem? The problem we now have in the Southeast is self-inflicted. That is the issue of unknown but known gunmen.

“So, if we are protesting, who are we protesting against? We are protesting against a President that has solved herders/farmers clashes. If you remove the issue of unknown gunmen, the Southeast will be completely safe and farmers can work. So, we can’t go and join anybody to protest.”

It is with utmost satisfaction that I write to update you and everyone, including our party leaders that has contributed to my *’Fresh Hope for Shared Prosperity’* campaign, since we embarked on our socio-political revival mission.

Like the cedar tree, the tree that we all planted on shared interest for a new and better Edo State, germinated so fast and was ready to bear fruits.

My cardinal principle in life is that of Malcolm X, which says that: “A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything.”

This is why I am in politics and exactly the reason I joined the race to be elected governor of our dear state, that is in urgent need of an experienced and talented administrator.

And in the words of late sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo, “Man is the Alpha and Omega, the only dynamic means and the sole end, of all earthly human activities. All productive activities, if they are to be meaningful, equitable, just and human, should be geared to one and only one goal – the welfare of the individual.”

These dignified words energised me and my team to have toured the 18 local government areas, preaching the gospel of prosperity and development.

However, our train is making a temporary stop to engender peace and unity in our party, the All Progressivs Congress, APC.

Frankly, the hardest part about making this decision has been the fate of Edo people, who are faced with diverse challenges. They have been more agitated than I’ve ever seen some of them.

However, I have taken the decision on behalf of Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe Campaign Organization that, clearly under the present circumstances, this campaign cannot go on.

I have stepped down and ready to support any popular choice of our party.

The double standard and sheer hypocrisy is egregious. Those party men who decried Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s purported “inordinate” interference in the election process, are the same persons now proffering a pretext of a non-existent directive from the Presidency, as the reason why they are now IMPOSING Senator Monday on their people. If as a leader of the party, you disagreed with the outcome of the party’s pruning exercise, defied the party’s directive as regards forms purchase, and suddenly woke up with a 20/20 vision, and having read the writing on the wall, decide to impose an aspirant on your people who were set to rebel with you hitherto, can you be said to be a good party man or leader? I am just wondering aloud. What was the justification for raising dust over presumptions that Senator Oshiomhole anointed an aspirant? What was the basis for that accusation in the first place? Is his earned charisma and huge following offensive?

The stark reality is that majority of the APC members are sentimental towards the aspiration of Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, including Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Quote me correctly. Hon. Dennis is set to emerge as the elected candidate of the party from the Saturday’s primary election on the basis of THE OVERWHELMING SUPPORT HE HAS ACROSS THE STATE.
For fear of being defeated by Hon. Dennis Idahosa, some aspirants have elected to quit the race dishonourably, by pulling out, and lying and or alluding to a nebulous directive that can’t even hold air, and conjuring up what does not exist. How shameless! An idea whose time has come cannot be derailed by negotiated and purchased deals; it will not even be able to create confusion within the ranks of our party. We are solidly behind Hon. Dennis Idahosa across the 18 LGAs of the state. Any other aspirant who cannot stand the soreness of defeat, and fears a puncture of their egos, had better do the honorable thing, and quit the stage too; but not bring themselves so low to telling outright lies and conjuring up a non- existent endorsement. Instead join in to support Hon. Dennis, and as a good party man or woman be co-operative and be seen to be.

The monarch expressed his desire for the First Lady to personally convey this message from the palace to the president, her husband.

He said: “Although we have several means of communicating to the government on our needs and requests, your way and means are the surest way to tell the president the actual happenings in the country.”

The Emir also spoke on the crises rocking the planned relocation of CBN and FAAN to Lagos.

He stated: “The hunger and starvation in the land, though didn’t start with this government, but the situation has become worse and needs urgent attention.

“The issue of insecurity is another serious problem we are facing. I know your government inherited it, but something more serious should be done to take care of the threats.

“We are receiving a series of messages from our people. One of such messages is the much-talked-about relocation of CBN and FAAN to Lagos. I think the government should come out clean on this matter and talk to Nigerians in the language(s) they would understand.

“Do more enlightenment on this matter, I for one cannot tell the actual intentions of the government; we should be made to actually understand why the relocation of the CBN and FAAN offices now to Lagos.”

He commended the First Lady for her care of the well-being and welfare of children and women.

He advised her to actualise her Renewed Hope Initiative Pet Program, adding that the programme, when fully achieved will free the less privileged from the myriads of problems.

Expressing worries about girl-child education, the emir of Kano asked the First Lady to critically look at the issues of women and children, especially female kids, and ensure their protection.

He urged her to continue helping the needy and commended her for supporting the people of Plateau during the conflict there, praying that such gestures should be done to any person in trouble.

The president’s wife thanked the Kano monarch for the warm reception he accorded her in Kano.

She promised to take the message and appeals of the Emir to the president, urging Nigerians to be steadfast and support her husband with prayers, assuring that very soon all the challenges would be tackled headlong.

The IPOB in a statement on Monday by its publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, said Governor Peter Mbah should shelve his plans to establish a cattle ranch at Nimbo in the Uzowani community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area (LGA) in the state.

The group added that it is against the establishment of a cattle ranch for Fulani herdsmen in Enugu or any other location in the southeast.

The statement by Powerful said if Governor Mbah plans to set up a cattle ranch in Enugu, such must be privately managed by an Igbo businessman.

IPOB said, it “is monitoring Governor Peter Mbah and his collaborators. They should understand that IPOB will not allow the establishment of any murderous camp for jihadist Fulanis in the name of cattle ranch anywhere in Enugu State.

“If Governor Peter Mbah is genuinely interested in establishing a cattle ranch in Enugu State, such ranch must be managed privately by an Igbo businessman. Only Ndigbo are allowed to own cattle ranches anywhere in Igbo land. We don’t want to have murderous Fulanis operating any cattle ranch in Alaigbo.

“If Fulani herdsmen have paid Dr Peter Mbah or any traditional leader for any parcel of Land in Enugu State, they should better go and collect their money back.”

It added, “We are also informing South East Governors to shun any idea of establishing cattle ranches in any state in the Southeast region.

“IPOB and ESN Operatives won’t allow any establishment of Fulani camp in the name of cattle ranch in any state in the Biafra territory.”

Others include Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ossai, and Deputy Governor of Delta State, Monday John Onyeme.

The PDP Governors’ Forum, led by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, is set to discuss the state of the nation (security and economic hardship), the upcoming Edo State Governorship Election, party primaries scheduled for February 22, the National Executive Council Meeting, and other party-related matters.
